Your kind of crippled without it. But if you like buying a car and don't like using the steering wheel, go for it =)

I would say it is critical to have ultimate success in using the BB! My two cents.

Is anybody using Parallels on an Intel Mac and running XP on that?
I assume it just works?

It's mostly useful for loading all your contacts, tasks and schedule.

When we test piloted the Blackberry our company only gave us the pre-installed Blackberry without the Desktop software, I just happy to get a Blackberry. After I loaded the DT, it's like having a Chevy and going to a Ferrari.

You do not need the Desktop Manager install to install or upgrade a handheld OS. Included with each OS is a copy of Application Loader, which is all you need. I didn't know this myself until a few days ago.

FYI, use the Mac Users Corner for future issues involving a Mac. I think everyone assumed you were a Windows user when this thread was first started.

Clarification about my question regarding desktop software on a Mac. I do use Pocketmac but how do I update The OS? I think that function is supported by the desktop software but not by Pocketmac?

You cant update the OS from a MAC computer. You MUST do it from a Windows based PC. Sorry.

When we firsted piloted BB, we all had the desktop software installed. After approval of the pilot and the start of mass, they went through and pulled the software from all desktops. Been kind of a bummer.

When you can sync everything wirelessly, the BDM is more trouble than its worth.
