Default setting up personal domain for email

Please Login to Remove!

ok so im new to BB and i recently got a new 7130e from verizon. I have various email accounts (aol, gmail, yahoo) and i set up my BB for all of them. However, ive noticed one problem.... i only recieve emails periodically (i think this is bc BB only checks the aol server every 10-15 mins) does anyone know what type of email address id have to set up in order to get mail in realtime? can i set up a personal email address (ex: [email address]) that will allow me to access mail in realtime?

Thanx in advance for your help.

A forwarder (with the apprioriate reply-to configured in BIS) would let you do this. For example, I have my main personal email on my own domain [email address]. In my web host's mail configuration, I have the option to forward email for a certain address. I set it to [email address], and then in BIS I set my reply-to address to be [email address], that way mail sent from my BB using that account appears to some directly from my personal account. This is instantaneous, no waiting for the 10-15 minute poll. It's even much faster than Redirector, which I use for work email.

Any web host that uses the pretty-much-standard CPanel should allow you to do this. If you're only going to use this for email and not really anything else, or even just a basic personal home page, any dirt-cheap $3 or $5/month hosting plan should suit you. I personally like my host anhosting.com a lot, and many of my friends are very happy with Dreamhost (although they don't use CPanel, I'm sure forwarding is possible in their control panel). However, those companies don't have really really cheap plans. I use those because I run several real web sites, but like I said if you're just doing email you don't need that much. There's lots of sites out there that can help you find a reputable host; http://besthostratings.com or http://hostfind.com are decent, I think. I personally wouldn't know what really cheap host to recommend.

I would recommend registering your domain with GoDaddy and managing the DNS from there. Don't let your web host register your domain for you and get tied to them.
