Default When do you swap out the SIM vs. the Blackberry itself

Please Login to Remove!

If a blackberry is having problems with receiving mail or syncing and you have gone through the apps loader and it doesn't work - how do you know if its the SIM that needs to be replaced or the blackberry unit itself?

We seem to replace the unit when it could be the SIM and the SIM is replaced rarely. We have a service contract so this isn't unusual.

Thank you in advance!

I have never heard of a case where the SIM card is the culprit. Hardware is rare too, unless it's actually java problems or a notibly visible problem. Most often, it can relate to a problem with the state database and how it has registered that particular piece of hardware. A good test is to put your SIM into another blackberry that is known to work and see if the error persists. Sometimes the BES has a problem with the PIN and resolving PIN's when handhelds are changed or added to the BES.

I agree with earth's assessment. Typically when I have trouble with a BlackBerry not syncing email properly, it's a problem with the state database. Sometimes a simple reactivation corrects the problems. However, sometimes I find myself wiping the handheld, deleting the user from BES (be sure to delete the users old state database at this point), re-adding the user to BES (this creates a new state database), then reactivating.

It is not the SIM. If it were issues with signal reception or dropped calls, maybe. I have seen SIMs cause those problems. Having trouble syncing or receiving mail, that's the device or the system.
