Unhappy Trouble with BES services

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I am having a little trouble with getting a Blackberry to sync with our BES! I have tried a quick search but can't find anything relevant..

I have installed the BES and setup the service account with the relevant permissions (unfortunatey the BES resides on the same box as exchange 2003, but this cant be helped for now)

now i have set up a user, and on the blackberry i will try to activate the account but it will simply timeout..

i have taken a look at the services, and it seems the the Blackberry router service is stopped and does not want to start..

i've taken a look in the event log and there are a number of warnings and errors..

the first two warnings are the Blackberry despatcher service
"SRPClient:connect: Error calling the host"localhost" [127.0.0.1] [10061]"

"[SRP] connection failed"

and the second two warnings are from the Blackberry router
"[DIAG] EVENT=bind_failed, ERROR=10048"

"[DEVICE_MANAGER] SRP StartListening failed. Port 4101 may be in use by another application"

any suggestions?

What release of BES and Patch Level?
If using the bbsrptest util do you get a positive connection response or by using the the same util on the BB Server Config Panel (Blackberry Router Tab)?
Is the Server Status Connected on the BB Manager (Server Info)?

Have been able to provision any other's or is this the first one?

Make sure that the MAPI Account you are using is not part of Domain Admins.

its BES 4.1 express, so just 1 license at the mo and just the one blackberry..
it conects fine when testing the connection -
Attempting to connect to :
srp.uk.blackberry.net (193.109.81.33), port 3101
Successful

not sure where to find server info? it does say "status: running" under the server config and connection service tabs

although the MAPI account (BESADMIN) is part of domain admins.. i was told that this needs to be done on SBS 2003 as you can not explicitly assign the "log on as a service" and "allow log on locally" permissions to the BESADMIn account?

thanks for the fast reply!

edit: oh, and just to add, when i try to activate the bb the little email message shows up in my inbox and then dissapears (from what i understand this is normal?) so it seems to get that far

I am busy with Several SBS Sites and none of them have Domain Admins associated to the User. If everything is on the same Server just use the std Administrator Account.

ok, i will give it a try, but im not sure i understand why having the account setup as domain admin would make anything worse?

i've spoken to BES support also and they suspect it may be something to do with port 3101 and the firewall, but i think he misheard me when i was telling him about the port 4101 part that shows up in the event log..

Please let me know,If you're still having hassles I will get account setup info from customers if you still are, we can perhaps discuss further outside of the forum. Most sites at the moment I have been using Adminstrator come to think of it. SBS is the pits in general, we have so much hassles with it at all sites that run it.

cracked it

thank you for the offers of help.. it seems to work as domain admin, but havent given it a go with just admin..

it turned out to be port 4101 was blocked, with the help of TCPView i was able to work out what was causing the block and sort it..

i now have a load more problems (like if BBs support public folders and other functionality questions!) but i'l save that for another thread! lol
