Question Text message vs email what is the difference?

Please Login to Remove!

ok, explain this to me ..6165551212@messaging.nextel.com = text page
[email address]= text page
[email address] = page or email?
[email address]= page or email?

I installed the vtext.com in as an email address into my address book of my bb under the persons name(bob for example). I then would select bobs name. options where as follows.

email bob
call bob
mms bob

If i select mms it would put in 5551212 and send an mms to his phone and i would get charged 10 cents for text and 25 for pic or file included.

I was told by nextel persons I could select email bob , his address would show up [email address] or [email address] . I would select the vtext becasue I wanted the message to go to his phone. I then would compose and send . Guess what out of the 6 trys i sent to bob he wouldn't get the messages threw my BB sending as email. IF i selected mms he would get them just fine in minutes. its like there was a filter that would recognize the 10 digit number and not allow the email to be sent blocked in some away. I tryed this method per the nextel people to get around the mms fees they stated it would work but I never could get it to email at all. I tryed this with 3 people all on verizon and none of them would get the messages unless I select mms.
Can anybody explain this? What are the fees or plans for mms? I was told from them for the 15.00 net plan on my 870 i got unlimted email and mms. Now with a doubly more expensive plan I dont get any mms and can't EMAIL a phone. I have all 50 employees in a free internet account on yahoo and we email these phones all the time for free but sending from the BB its blocked for some reason. I even went as far as having a friend with his BB try the email to bob and it still wouldn't work he had the same results as me.

I am no expert on this so take my advice with a grain of salt. This is how I understand it. If you are sending a message to a true email address such as [email address] and you select to send an email, it will use your data service. This method sends an email to an EMAIL SERVER using data. Something like [email address] is not a true valid EMAIL account. This is a service that the mobile phone companies use to send messeges to mobile phones(I guess using mms). I would bet that if you tried to send an email from your computer to those addresses, it would also not go through.

Take what I said with a grain of salt.

Unless someone agrees with what I say and then you can consider me a genious! lol

[email address] is a sms for verizon network. maybe your friend bob set up a filter and thats why he doesnt get your email send as txt?

I'm kind of miffed myself on what Nextel considers a text or a MMS message. Are they one in the same?

I just dicthed an $8 plan for text messaging in hopes of doing an email in place of MMS.

Is there an Email client that shows SMS & Emails in the same Inbox and why not voice mails as well. They are all messages right?

I think your better off keeping the messaging plan if you plan on doing some seriious emails. I just think it doesn't make sense how they rate it. Anybody know nextels BB customer service hours? Are they open sat and sun?

Just sent an SMS via email (I am on Cingular) to a @messaging.sprintpcs.com account. SMS message was successfully received and read from the Sprint account. Sent another to a @cingularme.com account. Also successfully received and read.

you sent these from your computer to a sprint account and then to your own bb correct? try sending #@ cingularme.com from one BB to another by sending threw email not MMS.

I sent both email-based SMS messages from my BB device to both a Sprint and Cingular non-BB device. Have not yet attempted to send email-based SMS messages to contacts via a desktop mail user agent.

I sent the email-based SMS messages via email and not MMS. I have sent such email-based SMS messages to other BB devices (those with text messaging plans) successfully in the past.

Check out Red Oxygen. You dont have to put the proprietary email address into your outlook address book, and you can send it globally

just found out that verizon has changed there text messaging or email address for hitting phones with email. its [email address] not vtext.com anymore. All our verizon guys have stopped recieving pages under vtext.com and we had to switch them.
I still would like to know if Nextel has switched there policy for MMS and emails. I want to be able to hit someones phone by emailing there phone number at vzwpix.com.
