Enterprise Activation Issue

I just got my 8700g, (had 7100), I installed the new software, installed the SIM. I plugged the phone into the USB and it started the enterprise activation, which then hung for like 20 mins at 76%. So I restarted it. Now I can't get it to retry the activation, I'm not sure if all is well or not. Most basic stuff seems to be working.

Any advice?

Why can't you get it to retry the activation?

If it never completed you might want to consider a wipe and re-activation.

Well the Enterprise Activation button is there but it is asking me for a password. I don't know it. When I initially connected to PC it started the activiation automatically without the password.

Yes, it'll do cable activation when you switch the PIN in Desktop Manager but I've been told they are not as good as an a wireless one.

You'll need the password from your BES admin to do it.

So no other options without that password?

The thing is that everything seems to be working ok, but I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Right, no password no activation.

I guess you won't know if something's missing until you need it and it's not there :)

Does wireless sync work? Files or folders for messaging?

Funny you ask, I came on the forum to ask another question.

Right now on my 8700 everything seems to work (I see my folders and emails for my corporate acct) except my tasks and address book were not synced. They finally synched when I connected my berry via USB to my PC. I can't remember wether I always needed to do that to sync tasks & address book. When Monday comes around I'll get the password and do the activation, for now whatever did happen w/o the password has most of the functionality working.

If someone could refresh my memory on wether I should expect tasks and address book to sync wirelessly I'd appreciate it.

You don't need a new username or password ,if you are able to connect your Blackberry to your Work Desktop and manually generate an encryption key by following below steps :- Its called a Wireline Enterprise Activation

(Only if you are either connected to you LAN directly or using VPN)

1)Open Desktop Manager (if you dont know what Desktop Manager is ,wait for ur password :) )
2)Open Redirector Settings
3)Open Security Tab
4)Change Generate Encryption Keys mode to Manual
5)Click on generate keys
6)Move mouse
7)Hit apply ,till the status goes upto date

Repeat step 5,6,7 again 2 more times.

NOTE :If using Outlook 2003,disable Exchange Cache Mode from account settings.( if not sure how to do this Google it)

Also its normal for Wireless EA to hang between 77 to 92 % for uptp 20-60 mins.
EA may take longer depending upon the size of your mailbox/mailfile.
No of Address Book entries,network strength,BES Health etc.

Consider doing a wired EA if you have a mailbox bigger than 100MB for best results.

I did what you said. I never noticed anything say EA complete or even in progress but the EA icon is gone now.

Is there any way for me to confirm if everything is working right?

Do a Address Book Lookup,does it work.If it does,you are fine.
Go under Options and Enterprise Activation on 8700R
Go to Options>Adv Options>Enterprise Activation
See what is goning on

I can do my address lookup fine, that was working after the initial "hung" EA.

I'm still not syncing tasks & notes wireless (unsure if that is related).

Under EA (from the options), it shows my email but the password is blank.

Go into Tasks and Notes options manually and see of wireless sync is turned off

It should say-Wireless Sync: Yes
If you dont see that option Wireless sync for Taks and Memos is disabled from the BES, go and yell at your BES Admin

I guess it times to yell :-)

On the phone I dont see those options. Via the desktop PIM management I also dont seem to have the ability to chose wireless. I was just trying to figure out if this was caused by that hung EA I had earlier, but it looks unrelated based on our conversation.

Wireless PIM sync is completely controlled via BES
You cannot modify that from your Desktp Manager like Calendar
But you not seeing those options in your Task and Memos makes be believe its your settings on the BES.Some Admins disable it on purpose to decrease data transfer during EA ,so that EA completes faster.
