Why is it that whenever I read a post by a MOD in any forum or see a celebrity they are 8700c users?
Is it because of the CINGULAR network? Is because of the 8700c ?
Why not an 8700g or an 7130e? s it true that w/ EDGE you got DATA wherever you got voice? And w EVDO in certain places only... In other words w/ EDGE you have medium speed all the time wherever you are and EVDO some of the time ?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7290/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Perhaps its that cingular and tmo target different markets

My guess: Most of those dudes are 'mericans (although Finch is a Canadian on Bell; he hates Rogers.) Most of them are also very experienced which is why they were chosen as Moderators. T-Mobile is new to the 8700 game. So most of the Moderators gravitated to Cingular a long time ago when it was the main game in town.
I really think it's that simple.

Cingular users tend to be unhappy with Cingular, and make effort to avoid having to deal with them. Hence the many threads about hosted BES. However, most Cingular people, including me, are stuck. We don't have Tmo as an option here, and if we did, its coverage in the parts of the US where I travel is poor.

I travel out of the country a lot, and an international data plan + GSM phone is very important to me. I'm stuck with Cingular, and I hate them like I hate my cable company.

I have Cingular because they have the best coverage in my area plain and simple.

If T-Mobile's coverage was better I'd be with them.

Many celebs here in LA (and elsewhere) are longtime Cingular users because Cingular has a long history of coverage in the area. And because nationwide coverage (in large part through AT&T) is excellent. And because SIM cards make traveling abroad a breeze. I suspect the 8700c because it (along with its little brother, the 7130c) are the latest and greatest (not necessarily true, but widely considered to be) of the RIM offerings.

I have no problems with Cingular (no, I don't work for them). And no problems with comcast cable (don't work for them either). As a matter of fact, both bring the wired and wireless world to me at high speed. So I'm a happy customer.

I have an 8700g on T-Mobile. I would guess that the mods from Canada do not have Cingular either.

Default curveball

Well, I have Alltel and don't see anyone else in this forum saying anything about them, but they have the best coverage where I am and it is that simple, too. TMo and Cingular both reside in the fine stat of MO, but Alltel has better coverage, period!

I went from a 8700c to a 7130c (Cingular)...I chose cingular because their coverage fits what I need more than any of the other service providers. Cost wise I am paying a bit more...but it makes it worth it.

I chose the 7130c because of it's small form factor. I don't mind suretype and I love the way it looks and works. I looked like I was holding a pancake to my head when I had my 8700c...this one just works better for me.

I use T-Mobile. We had one of the oldest accounts with PowerTel back in the pre-acquisition days, as we were all once owned by the same holding company. My office building is next door to PowerTel's original HQ offices (we have a tower in our parking lot). Simply put, we have a long-standing relationship/partnership with T-Mobile and they have the best service in our area.

Thumbs up

I'm not a Celebrity but I LOVE my 8700c! Best brightest screen on any mobile device I have ever seen. Very fast browsing.

I read that Pamela Anderson use an 8700c

Best,
Amanda
