I was attempting to load some new software to my 7520 - nothing huge, just a few small things.... The backlight software, and 2 others that I found on the forum. I am so traumatized, I don't remember what they were. Anyway, I don't know what happened but in the midst of loading the apps, the dreaded 507 came up on the screen. I popped the battery out and back - nothing. I got desperate and went and made coffee hoping it would repair itself in my absence - nothing. I called Nextel - HUGE nothing on their end. They had me remove the battery (even though I told them I already tried), then they had me download the 4.1 software and call them back. The second person I spoke to was TRULY a doofus. She did not even have me TRY to load the software they had just requested me to download and insisted that I bring it in for repair. I asked her to transfer me to someone smarter than her. Thankfully she obliged and a very fine gentleman finally got me up and running.

Unfortunately, my berry is now like NEW - no contacts, empty messenger list, etc... I already re-installed all of the missing apps and I think I have an old backup to retrieve most of my address book. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any idea what went wrong so I don't repeat this error? After about an hour, I was SHAKING. Perhaps I loaded too many apps at the same time? I don't know?? Please advise.

As well, just thought I'd throw in there that my berry is now perfectly SILENT. All of those settings have been turned off and need to be re-adjusted. I should have stayed in bed....

You should have made a backup (Desktop Manager/Backup) before installing third party software.....

A 507 means, simply, no operating system found. No need to call clueless technical support. A quick search here would have told you what to do....

Sorry to hear about the BlackBerry trouble. Look on the bright side at least it's operational again! I'll tell you the same thing I tell my co workers and friends who use BlackBerries... Do constant back ups it takes just a couple minutes and can save you a world of worrying and stress.

It is a good idea to make a complete backup anytime you are installing new software and once a week depending on how much you have added to your BB. Recovering from these disasters are then easy and complete!

Phew! I am so glad you were able to get it working again.

Bummer on the addresses & such. The same thing happened to me. The only thing that saved me was my BES online outlook information went back to my blackberry

Well I restored my address book from an older backup and then my Yahoo Messenger would not work and pointed me to a link. When I went to access the link I noticed that my browser was gone. <SIGH> Then I re-sent my service books, fixed the Yahoo and all is right with the world. FINALLY!!

The good news is that the backup gave me all my old fonts, settings, etc...and I got some really cool long forgotten e-mail back...lol.

I do so solemnly swear to backup each and every week.

Some installs via the desktop manager do a combined back-up/install. I almost always do a manual back-up before hand just in case something didn't save right during the combined back-up/install process.

One of the best things any BlackBerry owner can do. I'd be hooped if I never backed up my BlackBerry often. The back ups have really come in handy for me. I'm just glad your BlackBerry is up and running again. BlackBerry withdrawal symptoms are the worst

Well that's the weird part. It DID a backup before the install so I figured I was safe. It sure wouldn't let me use it though. If I am feeling VERY adventurous today, I am going to back up again, then try to go back and uses yesterday's that it made before the disaster. I'm a glutton for punishment. I know.
