I just installed windows xp on my pc and instaled sp2 and all updates. then i installed desktop manager v4.1 sp1. i have a bb 7730. when i log in to the desktop manager, it says 'disconnected' at the bottom, even though it's plugged in. the lightning bolt appears for the charge, so i know it's at least charging. i enabled desktop manager in the windows firewall. is there some typr of conflict between windows xp and the 7730? when i click on Options-COnnection Settings, USB is selected, I click ''detect" then get an error message:
Warning - Device not found.

any help?

Close Desktop Manager then pop the battery out then put it back. This is also reseting the blackberry instead of sticking a paperclip on the back of the device. While the hour glass spins, open Desktop Manager.

Was the BlackBerry connected to the PC during the install? If so, uninstall and reinstall the BDM again making sure the BlackBerry is disconnected.

try disabling the firewall or allowing the software thru as an exception rule.

I had a similar problem and disabled the firewall, installed the software and re-enabled the firewall. my firewall then flagged up the bb service client attempting to connect to a local port 0.0.0.0. i think..i allowed it and all was ok.

I am having the same problem with my PC not recognizing my 7290. I am using USB and have tried both the battery reset fix and the re-install of BDM w/out the BB connected. Neither attempt worked. I am running Windows XP x64 - could this be a problem? I'm at a loss and need a fix. Please help.

there are a few things to look at...

first off, you need to start te BB Device Manager (not desktop manager)

when you plug it in, you need to know if windows is seeing it. you should hear a "duh dunk" sound

at least initially you should see a "found new hardware RIM device" and then at some point a "your new device is isntalled and ready to use"

if this doesnt happen, then check the Device Manager to see if you can find the BB there

if the BB is not there then, this is where your troubleshooting needs to start

If this stuff has happened then you should be in good shape

open options > connection settings, look in the drop down for USB : PIN, select it and hit detect

if that is not an option let us know (i got to go and dont have time to type more atm, but will be back)

There is one more thing I've seen some computers do with the BB. Occasionally the computer will power off the USB device to save power. You can check this by going to your device manager (right click on My computer >Properties > Hardware >Device Manager and go all the way to the bottom of the list and expand the line that says Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right click on each instance of "USB Root Hub" and select properties then click the "power management" tab. Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Do that for each instance of USB Root Hub. This really messed me up on some Dell laptops for a while. Took me forever to figure it out! Don't know if it's your problem but worth checking.

Make sure the drivers are installed. I had the same issue with a 7290 and had to reinstall the drivers. As stated above, remove the DT mgr and reinstall without the BB plugged in. It May see only a serial connection until you set the communication option to USB in the DT software.

in device manager delete the usb root hub's. restart the pc. and plug your bb in. if you want to be thorough uninstall desktop manager after restarting and before plugging BB in.

Nope the problem here is that windows is showing me unknown device (I have deleted the HUBS, removed the whole black berry software and reinstalled it), and as far as I have read and searched there are no x64 device drivers.
