Default How do I sign e-mail with digital certificate?

Please Login to Remove!

I have digital certificates for each of my e-mail addresses and I use them regularly with Outlook 2003.

I now have a Blackberry 8700f with Desktop Software version 4.1. I run the certificate sync and I can get all of my certificates (mine and my clients')from my desktop to my Blackberry. I can see all of them on my Blackberry in Options - Security - Certificates.

I can receive e-mails which have been signed with a certificate.

But I can not figure out how to sign an e-mail I send with my digital certificate.

I am using standard POP3 e-mail servers.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? If it's impossible let me know. If there's a third-party program which will allow me to do it just let me know. If I need to change e-mail software on the Blackberry I'm willing. However I can't touch my server.

If it's a case of RTFM please accept my apologies in advance and just point me to the page.

Thanks!

I think you need the S/MIME Support Package, which requires BES. I am not 100% on this as the BlackBerry Technical Knowledge Center is light on details.

S/MIME Brochure
S/MIME Whitepaper

Doug,

Thank you for your very helpful reply.

I'm not entirely sure that their solution is going to work. From the client (Blackberry) end the S/MIME package looks exactly like what I'm looking for. The Blackberry account I have is BES, I believe, and would therefore be applicable.

However following their white paper and such the infrastructure they refer to is not, and will not be, ours: using their server software as or on our mail server.

We use our Verisign certificates with standard POP3 mail servers. They install in to Outlook, and other, clients seamlessly.

Where can I go to get more information on the S/MIME package, to confirm it would work for us and, most interestingly, purchase it?

Thanks!
