On the 7290 is it possible to set different ring tones or types for email and phone calls.

Yes you can. Just configure via the "Profiles" icon. Select an existing profile or create a new one. Then click thumbwheel and select "Edit" on that profile.

You can use the existing tunes or download some sample ringtones to your BlackBerry:

Further question - is it possible to configure a different ring tone for different entries in your address book? (ie if X calls use ring tone ABC, etc...)

Nope; you can't do that.

There are some extra items that you can download for free from mobile.blackberry.com

Ringtones / games / access to seach engines, etc.

The "push" service do not work on my BB7290/BB Browser (or CBW browser)...but everything else seems to be working.
