I have a problem involving an Exchange Server and Blackberry Users using the BIS to connect.

Users receive all email just fine and can also send from the blackberry. The problem I have is that if a user replies to a message in OWA or Outlook, they then get the original message they replied to again on their blackberry. The message shows up as new at the present time, but when you open it all that is there is the original message sent at the original time.

Any help or suggestions would be great.

sounds like message ID's are changing - so the BIS see's it as a new message and sennds it to the BlackBerry

I'm not sure how a message ID would change for a message currently in Exchange if a user simply replies to it. I went through message tracking center in System Manager, and don't see any changes. I took an email I had and checked the message id. I then replied to it, and the message id didn't change on the original message.

Any other suggestions to check the message id's?

Are you using BIS1.8 and Exchange server 2003? I came across exactly same problem as yours when integrated email account using POP3/IMAP method to BIS1.8. This problem can be solved in BIS2.1 but BIS2.1 is now experienced another major problem "message content become blank".......

BTW, message ids did change but not in your Exchange system. It changes in Blackberry server..... so it retrieves it again from your email server..... but RIM claims it is not their system problem..... what kind of service????

I am Exchange 2003 SP2. Users connect using Outlook via Exchange but POP3 & IMAP are enabled as we are in a conversion process.

The user is on BIS 2.0 as he recently upgraded from 1.8 going through Cingular. BIS 2.0 automatically detects the type of email and sets it to IMAP.

Is this in line with the problem you experienced? If I disable his account for POP3 / IMAP, do you think BIS2.0 will fail to autodetect it and allow for OWA access?

I was able to work around the issue by forcing BIS to use OWA instead of letting it auto configure. I had to use the wrong password for each user (BIS would lock out the account as it tried a few times). Then I was able to configure it to use webmail.

No more duplicates.

This doesn't really address your problem, but just as an FYI, the time that appears in the message list is the time the message arrives. The time in the message itself is the time it was sent.

kcorace, appreciate the post. I have a similar issue - replying to a message on the BB creates a duplicate of the original message. I'm testing now on a few users to see if it solves my problem, as well.

No forwarding or redirector or BES in use here. All BB use BIS 2.0 to access their mailbox on an Exchange 2003 server via IMAP. Carriers are Verizon and Sprint/Nextel.
