Default Something Learned

Just learned something new today. Had a user who stated his emails were not reconciling - when he deleted them, they would not delete on the device. I did everything I knew to do. Nothing. Then I walked up and noticed that he was deleting emails in Outlook by pressing Shift+Delete keys - not the normal way of either right-clicking and choosing delete or by clicking the X in the toolbar, or drag and drop into Deleted Items folder. Shift+Delete bypasses the Deleted Items folder and is also not recoverable after deleting in this manner - it is nuked. However, it still shows on the BB and is still viewable, but can not be forwarded or replied to. I tested it on mine and had a few other people test to verify this - it will always show on the BB.

So, even though this is really not that big of a deal, some people may now not bang their head like I did for 30 minutes before finding out what was going on. Also, I have not heard of this ever before and did some minor searching but didn't find this as a cause for not reconciling. Cheers!

This is something I warned users in our area about. It also applies if they empty the Deleted Items folder before they reconsile. I had a few questions during training on problems with reconsile and identified this as one of the causes.

I *just* had this issue with someone (fortunately, I've heard of this, so knew what he was doing wrong). The user likes to keep his mailbox clean and below the limit (imagine that!!!)

I recommended to the user that he set up his Outlook Deleted Items to empty when he exits the program, but before that force the reconciliation (Reconcile Now). He's happy with that alternative.
No longer a BES Admin, but it was fun while it lasted!
