Default cingular data plan service question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi
I just switched over from a nextel BES setup to Cingular. Both were about $45 for unlimited data and both setups go thruogh my company BES.

Cingula does not seem to run any apps that worked on verichat - google maps, opera, and more importantly verichat.

I contacted cingular who told me that the $45 plan only gives me wap access to the BES and that the plan i needed was $70.

Is this true - is anyone else using the $45 unlimited cinuglar data plan with BES and able to use verichat, opera etc. I dont think the firewall at work has changes so its not a blocking issue as far as i know.

TIA

Wirelessly posted (8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

This my setup:

1: Cing unlimited bb plan
2: ppu removed from account.

I have no problems accessing all data on my bb with my account set up like this.

Did you ask for Data Device CS when you talked to Cingular CS. If not, I would suggest you call back and ask the question again. I don't think the first rep knew what he was talking about.

Hope this helps.

yeah, you should be paying either 39 or 44 dollars for unlimited data. The 70 dollar plan is for tethering. Unlimited data means unlimited data, not unlimited WAP.

Wait a minute. I am paying $45.00/mo for the unlimited BB Data plan with Cingular. There has got to be a difference between the two......anyone have a clue as to what it is?

I think that the more expensive plan is needed to use BES. This seems to be the general concensus on several other threads, although at least one poster reported having no problems using BES with the less expensive plan.

It seem logical that there would be a functional difference between the network resources needed to access BES vs. just BIS, but the difference may be purely artificial and meant only to make more money for the carrier.

I seem to remember a coworker with an Alltel BB having to buy a more expensive data plan before it would work with our agency's BES.

Sprint only has the one plan: damned expensive

Mister.zero is correct. Anyone using BES has to have the $45 plan. If you are only using BIS, like me, then you can be on the $29.99 plan.

True there are two different data plans. One is for BIS and the other for BES. Assuming that your BIS is configured correctly via APN, you should be able to access all applications and data.

If you have BES, and are going through an IT department, you may have restrictions that are not allowing you to access your other data. You may need to check on that. You could configure your APN settings (Which can be found by searching this forum) to see if that helps. By the way, the BIS is 29.99 and the BES is 44.99 if I am not mistaken. It has been a while since I have looked at Cingular's BES prices. I am positive at the BIS prices though.

Good luck,

The Gecko

The BES is 44 dollars if you don't have a voice plan. If you do, its 39 dollars. BIS only is 30 dollars. And tethering is 70 dollars.

What exactly do I have to ask for to get the $30 per month BIS only plan? Or what is the name of the feature on the web site?

I just talked to a Cingular sales rep and they told me that the $30 plan is only for customers with no voice plan, as long as I have a voice plan the only unlimited data plan I can get is the $45 plan. Is this true or did I get a bad sales rep?

That is false. It's backwards actually. If you HAVE a voice plan then it's $30. Without a voice plan, or if you are on a BES, it's $45.

I have a voice plan and I'm on the $29.99 plan.

I would call again and ask to speak with someone either in data or knows a little about the BlackBerry.

My first instinct was to hang up and call back to get another representative but I posted here instead. I should have did that in the first place because the second time I called back I got a guy that could do it for me.

This guy didn't know what it was either really. He called it the Blackberry Business unlimited plan but it was $29.99. I think he saw "bis" in it and assumed it stood for business. I was like "whatever, that's what I want. Give it to me"

Thank you for the assistance.

That's Cingular for you... Customer Service is very inconsistent. Always call back if the first rep isn't able to help you or provides dubious information.

In my pos system, it even shows it as "blackberry buisness unlimited" People who write this stuff probably dont even know what a blackberry is, nevermind what the difference between BIS and BES.
