Cool Regenerate Encryption Key

Please Login to Remove!

Heres the scoop. I have about 500 BB users on a BES. Its a mix of Cingular 7290's, 8700's and Nextel 7520's. For the last 6 weeks or so, I have had many users get the "Decryption Failure, Please regenerate keys" errors. They call me and I walk them trhough regenerating the key and all is well. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I understand one or two once in a while, but I am getting 4-5 calls a day from users with this problem. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Users in different parts of the Country, no signal problems, no BES errors, nothing. Just curious if anyone else has seen this with multiple users.

BES 4.0
All handhelds at running at minimum 4.0 software.

Thanks,

I thought it was time issue. There must be some documentation on that. On our BES it happens automatically and I just got to move my mouse.

The mouse thing is only good if you have the Desktop Manager installed. If your completely wireless it becomes a whole different issue.

I have seen the error Brentws described, but only after wiping a handheld. Never spontaneously.

I seem to remember one of the service packs on the BES fixed some decryption failure issues.

On the BB, go to (Settings/Tools) Options --> Security Options --> General Settings, scroll down to Desktop[...](3DES) under Services:, click the wheel and select Regenerate Encryption Key.

If you're running Desktop Manager, go to the Redirector Settings, Security tab, change the Encryption key configuration from Generate keys automatically to Generate keys manually, generate the new key, then put it back to automatic.
