Default Battery Charging Issue!!!

Please Login to Remove!

So i'm on vacation (not really, but you know how that goes) and I forgot my charging cable. I went to wal-mart, and spent 15 bucks on a cable that fits my BB. Its a mini-usb B cable? ( it has a letter B on the connector.)

I left it plugged in for 4 hours, and it hasn't charged the battery at all.

In fact, its still at 5% and wont turn on the radio. The radio worked while i left it plugged in.

Not knowing what else to do, I installed the BB desktop software.

I tried searching and cant find any issues of this anywhere. Someone, if you've had a similar issue, help!

Default Here's a solution, sorta...

What are you plugging the USB cable into? A computer? The Blackberry wall-wart AC adapter? (Mine was defective, I exchanged it at a T-Mobile store just last week after a similar experience.)

A computer must have the BB desktop manager installed in order for the USB cable to be able to supply a charge to the device, however there is a work around to that problem, and I've read about it here.

Do a more thorough search on these forums, and on PDA-Street and Howard Forums.

My solution was to purchase a cigarette lighter cable with the USB connector, and get one of those wall warts that has a female cigarette lighter receptable on it. One cable, dual location usage: In the car and in the house (or hotel).

I found this stuff at a cellphone equipment store in the airport, but they're available all over place.

I have charged my BB on my mac using pocketmac app and the USB cable that came with the unit to charge it. I did notice that it charges alot better if I have the bb turned off, rather than on.

Macman!

I was in a similar situation while traveling. Lost the US AC clip fo rhte wall charger. I don't carry a laptop (reason for having the BB), but I did have a PS2. I thought I'd be super smart and use the USB on the PS2 to get my BB charged up again. To no avail.

I guess PCW was right. You have to have Desktop manager installed. Although, I don't always run Desktop manager while charging my device...?

I guess I need to get a car charger or a new AC clip.

FIX!!!!

OK, i found out that if you download the bb desktop software, then install it, install the BB, uninstall the software, it still leaves the device driver for the BB there. You can charge as long as you have the device driver.

yeah, its awesome, saved my tail

Strange... I have my BB connected to my laptop which is running Fedora Linux, and it still charges. No drivers loaded(as far as I know there are none for us Linux folks).

Edit: I just realized that I am connected via a powered USB hub, if that makes any difference.
