Download & View MSword Docs, Listen to Full-Length mp3s through device browser

A user on pinstack posted that (s)he was able to download and listen to full length mp3s through the browser. I confirmed that I can do this on my 7130c on Cingular. I recall that a few weeks ago, mp3s were limited to a certain file size or a certain length. This does not seem to be the case any more. I uploaded an mp3 to a geocities page and was able to download and listen to it. I also attached 2 mp3s to an email to my gmail account (on BIS). I couldn't open the mp3s through the BB messages, but I could download and listen to them through the Gmail html site with the Internet Browser. The pinstakc user said that (s)he could save the mp3s as ringtones. I could not do this. I get an error message saying "Unable to save file." Then the song would be listed in my "tunes" but would not play.

I was also able to access a number of MS word (.doc) files through the internet browser. I don't think I could do this before, either -- I would get a message indicating that the file type was not supported.

Is this part of the new BES. I'm on Cingular and I've had push gmail for a few weeks now. Is it possible that they're just rolling out some additional features now?

I think only a software upgrade would change something like that.

What OS are you using and could you point me to one of those links you downloaded the full length mp3 from and the pinstack post? I would like to try this myself. I still get the unrecognized format when trying to open a .doc file. I'm using T-Mobile BIS with v.4.1.0.351

I have a 7130c on Cingular, running app version 4.1.0.327 (dobson). I'm on a bes.

Try this link: http://www.geocities.com/jhselby/Angie.mp3

It's a free geocities account, so it's probably got some bandwidth usage restriction.

Listening to MP3s is not that practical as I can't save the file and lose it if I navigate away from the browser. But, it sure is nice to be able to download and view word docs from the interweb.

Dang, it didn't work for me, I am on 7100i on Nextel Service. I get and HTTP Error 406: Not Acceptable...The page you are trying to load is not supported by the browser. Please try loading a different page. I have v4.1.0.136 (platform2.0.0.4.4).......Nextel sucks!!

Wow, that is pretty cool. I didn't know my 7130c would let me do that. Thanks for the tip :)

You can save them!

Once you have downloaded the file in the browser and the media player appears, click the trackwheel and select "Save Page" (down at the bottom - not "Save" at the top). It will take quite a while. When it is done you will have a new message in your Messages titled "Audio Player - Angie".

Anytime you click on that link it will start playing. Just tried it now on my 7130e (turned off the wireless once it was downloaded to be sure it works).

Still can't seem to make it a ring tune though.

Man, am I master of the obvious or what? I didn;t even see the "save page" option. Nice find. Thanks, it was driving me nuts.

It seems like this is a function of BIS 2.1. -- I can access word docs and mp3s with the internet browser, but not through the Blackberry Browser.

Also works with PDFs, XLSs, and PPTs.

I have an 8700g on T-Mobile (4.1.0.284) and was able to open a pdf and am downloading the mp3 file from the link below right now with the internet browser and it is now playing.
