Default Question from a newbie

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I have had my blackberry for going on 6 months now, and I love it. I would even go as far as to say I am addicted to it.

I do, however, have a question in regards to the email options on my blackberry. I like to keep my blackberry on at all times of the day, including when I am asleep. One problem with this is I receive emails in the wee hours on the night, and this is starting to become a nuisance. I am aware I can set my blackberry to "silent", but I still want to have the phone vibrate in case I get a phone call. Is there any way to set up the BB to delay texts and emails untill I wake up at 4:30, or something of that nature?

A second question, and this may be a tad bit of a dumb one, but will not turning my phone off while charing the battery in the evening have any effect on the BB? Would I be better off turing the thing off for a few hours while its charging?

Thank you for your time.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7290/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

First off it doesn't really matter if you keep your bb on while charging I never turn mine off...second you can set it up where you don't receive email and text til' 430 you could just set the settings on email and text to where it doesn't vibrate when gettings a message and phone calls do go to profiles>edit

Thanks for the reply.

If I were to change the option as you suggested that would mean that I would not receive any notification on emails and texts at all, correct?

I would like to keep it to where I still receive notification during the day, just to where it keeps it silent during the night.

Thanks

Adam

You can choose between Tone, Vibrate, LED, or a mix of notification methods.

These are my settings, may be useful to you:

In holster: vibrate on emails, vibrate and ring on phone calls.
Out of holster: silent on emails, ring on phone calls.

My life:

During the day: carry blackberry in holster (of course), get notified on all emails and phone calls.
At the meeting: put blackberry on the table, it only rings when someone calls me.
At night: connect blackberry to charger, keep it without holster. Only waken up when someone calls me (this device is for emergency calls only).
At morning: do read all emails collected during the night, and put device to its holster.

Answering second question: I, personally, never turn my blackberry off.

As RIM has yet to release an extended battery for the 7130c, I have my device Auto On/Off feature set to Turn On At: 6:00 and to Turn Off At: 22:00 in an attempt to maximize battery life.

Just create a profile "Sleeping" where everything is silent except for your phone alert and select that profile before going to sleep. I had to do this or my girlfriend would find me a different place to sleep.

I created a profile like the person above, called SLEEP. Allows the phone to ring as normal but greatly decreases the volume of the email notification. If I am awake, I could here that I got a email but if sleeping it is such low volume that it would not wake me.

One thing about a Blackberry is the ability to set the profiles to do about anything!

Thanks for all of the replies guys.

I have another question, and this time it has to deal with emailing.

Right now I have my school email account forwarded to my GMAIL account, and so far I am really enjoying it.

My only thing is whenever I send a email from gmail (dont really use my email account so I dont know if it is applicable) I get that email forwarded to my BB.

Is there a way to disable this option?

within the BIS mailbox setup, you must create a filter that says something to the effect of "do not send copy to self" it takes 2 seconds to set up and you will not be bombarded with your own emails
