Default BB OS Compatibility

I have a 7100t unlocked device. Is it mandatory for me to use the Blackberry OS from t-mobile or do I have the ability to use any OS I wish? My reason for this question is because i've been reading on the boards and there are some OS's which offer different capabilities over others. One example would be Nextels OS now offering the ability to view attachments without having to be set up on the BES.

It's not the operating system that allows them to view attachments, it's the Nextel Blackberry WebClient. I'm pretty sure all the WebClients have since been upgraded to 4.0 and you can view attachments on all of them now as long as your handheld has 4.0 on it.

Hmmm well my under "About" in settings it says i have v4.0.0.198 (Platform 1.8.0.121), I'll check my BWC version on my computer when I get home and see if I need to update it. Thanks for the info Eric5273.

I found with my 230 that after deleting and resending service books via the T-Mo BWC site and and Option-Cap-Delete that I could finally view jpg attachments. Actually, to further confuse things, I think I also re-registered te Blackberry. Sorry I wasn't more scientific in my approach but you may need to do one or all to resolve the matter.
