| quick question reguarding text messaging on nextel Please Login to Remove! ok after doing some searching on this forum, there is one thing i dont believe ive seen..
for us blackberry users on nextel, in order to send and recieve text messages (and see who they are from) do you absolutely have to get that $15 unlimited mms plan, OR can you just get one of their $5 or $10 texting plans.. i really dont need the whole "multimedia" part of the messaging. im on a 7520 if that makes a difference.
thanks in advance | | Offline

| Here is my understanding.
It is 100% impossible for Nextel users to be able to receive SMS messages and tell who they are from. Not because of the plan, but because it is simply not possible on their network.
You can send and receive e-mails and PIN messages on your Blackberry, but that would require a data plan with Nextel (either 3MB or Unlimited (GET UNLIMITED))...
Hopefully that information is accurate, and hopefully it helps you.

| Trig, when you say text messaging, I assume you mean SMS.
Yes, you can get an SMS plan with x amount of messages per month, but (to my knowledge) you still won't be able to tell who they are from.

| thanks for the quick response milkman. im currently on nextel's unlimited bb plan. i still have alot of friends who text me and i cant see who they are.. usually im having to initiate text messaging with them the email way (ie: ![[email address]](http://www.blackberryforums.com/?emailimage=71b2a065ce72fed01fb4249f518418a2) or ![[email address]](http://www.blackberryforums.com/?emailimage=aee07e16a204c278acc1b6622bdc3bb6) , etc.) but its so annoying to get someone who will text me "hey " or whatever and not know who its from. so i was just curious if adding on one of their messaging features was gonna fix this.. and i really didnt want the mms, just simple text messaging. | | Offline

| No problem on the response! That is what we are here for!
As for your dilemma, I am afraid the answer remains the same. On Nextel, no matter what you do, you will never be able to see who a SMS is from...
Something that may make you laugh, check this guy out that is feeling the same pain as you. More importantly look at the last one on his list. How would you feel receving that SMS... SMS on BlackBerry 7510/7520
In all seriousness though, if you want to know who an SMS is from, you gotta get off Nextel (to my knowledge) :(
Sorry I didn't have better news

| if you have a 7520 wiht OS 4.1 you can get true SMS where you can send to people right out of your address book and when you recieve a message it pulls the name out of your address book. I am not possitive but I am almost sure you get 100 messages per month included with the unlimited blackberry plan. | | Offline

| That is incorrect 1badss. With 4.1 OS you have the ability to send MMS messages, not SMS. | | Offline

| If it helps, I can receive 'text' messages on my 7100i, but I can't see who they came from (unfortunately, they are pages from my company's helpdesk, so I know based on what's in the subject that I have to log in and fix something). The icons next to these messages just looks like the regular email icon, but they are slanted to the right.
I can also send and receive MMS messages. These icon next to these look a little different - kind of like an evelope, but the right side is pointed. To be able to send/receive MMS I have to have the correct feature enabled (I think it's 'Short Message Service' - SMS). The feature just gives me the ability - but the messages are still $0.10 each. So I have added the 500 message plan to my line - I think it's $8/mo.

| Just out of curiousity, can't you add their phone#@carrier.com to your address book and then if you recieve sms/text msgs, it should reconcile with their name if entered thus? | | Offline

| Actually you CAN tell who they are from if the person sending them is on NEXTEL as well. My husband has a regular i355 phone with a Nextel plan and when he sends me a text, I get the field with his phone number in it. Anyone else, I just need to guess (but he is really the only important one anyway
