Default Can't add Blackberry to ATT (not Cingular) shared plan?

Please Login to Remove!

So I finally get my Blackberry this evening, and I'm excited, I pop in my SIM and it works fine. Now before I launch into this next part, know that I am on a shared ATT plan. I currently have the limited GPRS data attached to my number.

So I call up Customer "Care" and make the simple request to remove GPRS data from my number and add the unlimited Blackberry. He puts me on hold, then comes back and says he's not sure if it's possible to add BlackBerry to a shared plan. I said of course it is, and I gave him the phone number and name of a friend of mine who has exactly that. "Oh, but that's a Cingular number, sir." I basically say so what. He says that on ATT plans, the BlackBerry data is NOT an add-on to voice; it is the base plan to which voice is added. I had trouble believing this. He tells me there is no such thing as a shared ATT account with a BlackBerry on it and says that to get my BlackBerry working, he'll have to split it up and I'll have to pay full price for another voice plan.

What the heck is this? Does he mean to tell me that of all the millions on ATT plans out there, that no one is on a shared one with a BB? Does anyone have such a plan? Does anyone have an idea for me?

Thanks!

I got the same run around from NBO. On ATT the blackberry data plan is the base plan and the voice is the addon, since you don't have to have a voice plan with them on a BB.

I didn't believe it either. Can you do this on Verizon?

ARGH! I just got back from the Cingular store here (which I have never visited before) and asked some questions...like is it really true that I can't add my BB to my shared ATT plan, and if so is it possible to migrate all three of us to Cingular but keep our area codes separate like they are now. This stupid rep got stuck on the fact that I was using a Cignular-branded device on an ATT plan. "You can't do that, they use different frequencies and stuff." I said no they don't, I've got my ATT SIM card in it right now and it works as a phone. She simply wouldn't believe it. She told me that's why it wouldn't work, and didn't listen to me when I told her that when I was on the phone with Customer Care we never even got as far as what the BB was branded. I asked her to disregard the equipment, since I know the equipment, and just focus on the plan. She wouldn't do it. She wouldn't believe me when I told her that these newer 7290s were specifically locked to both ATT AND Cingular, and there are even people using Cingular-branded BBs on carriers like T-Mobile.

I'm so frustrated! How the heck do you guys get around stupid reps like this. Different frequencies?? Give me a break!

Go back tomorrow, ask someone else. Since I am a corp customer, I have to call them. I *always* have to block out at least an hour per call.

You have to find a rep who seems to know what they're doing and always go back to them.
