Default MMS Works on Cingular!! - 08-29-2006, 04:01 PM

Searching here and on pinstack.com, there are many threads and posters that say that Cingular doesn't support mms. I was even on the phone just a few mniutes ago on an unrelated issue with Cingular technical support (the 304-3044 number), and the woman with whom I spoke told me that there is no MMS capability for blackberries on Cingular.

This has me very confused. I can send and receive mms. I have a 7130c, on Cingular. I'm running app version 4.1.0.327 now, but I've been able to send and receive mms from the day I got it -- even when I was running the latest Cingular 7130 software - 4.1.0.321.

If I compose an mms I have options to "attach address," "attach appointment," "attach picture," and "attach audio." Plus, it allows me to send mms to both phone numbers AND email addresses. I just sent my brother an mms with both a picture and an mp3 audio clip. No problem. I sent the same mms to his email address and it also worked fine. He took a picture with his Razr and sent it to my BB as an mms and it worked.

Why do people say that there is no mms for blackberries on the Cingular network?

Indeed. The 7130c is the only one that seems to support it. Those of us with the 8700c aren't as lucky.

It's funny, because the woman at Cingular (who, BTW, seemed very on top of things) knew I had a 7130 and still told me that I shouldn't be able to send or receive mms. I guess she was just wrong.

This is really interesting because I had a 7130c and I was able to send MMS no problem. I got an unlocked TMO 8100 that I’ve been using with Cingular and never been able to send MMS. I spent endless amount of hours with every tier level of their technical support team and they were not able to resolve the problem. Nobody ever mentioned to me that they did not support MMS on the 8100 BB.

Yes, yes they are. It's really annoying to have to second guess every Cingular rep you talk to...

The Cingular reps you get initially don't even work for Cingular directly. And then you have to fight with whether or not you're getting Cingular support or legacy AT&T Wireless support... or is it AT&T now? It's amazing that they have yet to integrate their support and systems yet.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

If I'm not mistaken (but I very well could be), your issue has more to do with the MMS settings the phone uses, and not whether or not Cingular supports MMS with the 8100. When sending and receiving MMS (or SMS) they go through Cingular's servers, and are directed to those servers when you hit the "send" button. Being a (unlocked) T-Mobile phone, it is probably configured to direct to T-Mo's servers. That being said, I don't have much of an idea as to where to tell you to look for these settings, or even if I'm right on this (this is my guess as to what the issue may be, having dealt with Nextel phones....unlocked Boost phones cannot send or receive SMS/MMS until the phones settings are updated to send to Nextel's servers instead of Boosts').....
