Default Odd Situation

Please Login to Remove!

I recently got a Blackberry, mostly for work monitoring network devices to get alerts of any problems when I am off site.

Anyway I didn't have the chance to go and connect it to the BES so I just set it up with redirector on my home exchange account. My plan was to connect it to BES when I got the chance, but at least could get messages forwarded in the meantime. Now for the really weird part.

As I understand it you get BES or redirector, but not both. I wiped my device and connected it to BES. Only problem was that I could receive emails fine, but not send. I tried everything, but still no outgoing mails. In desperation I connected it to my home desktop to try and quickly just go back to my home Exchange account. I am now getting messages redirected from my Exchange, and BES. I can only send through my home account, but that is fine for me.

So the question becomes, any idea how this happened? Any possible issues, I mean it is working just fine and actually is better for my needs than just using BES. BTW I am the admin, so no problems with cirumventing policies or whatever. I just am wondering might it cause any problem for the server, I don't see why it could.

Thanks.

I am assuming that your home exchange account is a different account then the one you would have used with BES. If so, in theory, you can use redirector and BES services simultaneously, just like you would use BES and BIS together. The key is renaming the service book in the redirection settings screen in desktop manager before adding the second service, for instance rename the redirector to "redirector". Then you would have desktop[cmime] from BES, and redirector[cmime] from the redirector and be able to send/receive from either service.

There are a few catches and you basically can't make both services work 100% together. Like BES 4.0 sync service book - no matter what its name is, you can only wirelessly sync to one service. So keep this theoretical trick to the task of simple email configuration only and expect nothing else and it should work.

Yes home and work are different Exchange servers, different domains, etc.

I renamed the redirector account and resent the BES service book. I still can't send from BES though. Any ideas? It would be really cool if I could use email from both accounts fully functional. I don't really need much more than that as I just need this for alerst from servers and network devices basically. I just like two accounts, one for work (my Exchange account) and one for the company I am consulting for (their BES).

Just getting emails from the two accounts is better than nothing I guess. The problem with receiving on my Excange is that I am running SBS, so only download mails every 15 minutes. If something critical goes down finding out 15 minutes after the fact is no good.

I don't know the exch system very well, so trouble shooting a can't send issue by me is useless. Could be persimision issue...
