Default Smartcarder Reader W/ 8700G and BIS

In order to use my personal Blackberry at work I must use a smartcard reader and load my Common Access Card in it while in the building. Since I don't want to drag my CAC and reader with me on the weekends how easy is it to turn the smartcard reader "off" or go back and forth between being required to use the reader and not using it?
