Question BB 7520 doesn't display DC name

Please Login to Remove!

I've recently activated 4 BB 7520 phones and when the users direct connect someone or are the receiver of a direct connect, only the number is displayed. The caller id does work for a normal call. Any thoughts?

Do you have the callers DC number in your address book?

If they are not mapped in Outlook , etc. they will not show up. You will find plenty of information on this website for mapping DC to the correct Outlook fields.

fyi
Also, make sure the DC# has the "*" in them
The field in outlook is "Radio" (put full DC#)
The field in BB Address Book is "DC#"

Also, if it's already there, try putting the full DC# (like 777*888*9999 or 905*1*9999)

I have 20 other BB phones that do display the name on a DC. The only thing different about the 4 new ones is the Desktop Manager is v4.1. The 4 phones are setup just like the other 20 that work.

That is odd. I use Desktop Manager 4.1 for my 7520, as well as the latest Operating System, and haven't had a problem.

So I know the 2-way caller ID doesn't work if they 2-way you, but what if you try to 2-way them by name, does that work?

The caller id doesn't work in either direction. What is the latest OS your using? A BlackBerry Support Tech told me that caller id isn't suppose work with direct connect, so I'm out to prove them wrong.

Not sure the problem. Whenever someone DC's me, I see the name of who's calling. When we made the switch to BB, I made sure all of the DC numbers I had in my Outlook were the full network ID xxx*xxx*xxxx

I made sure of that too. It works on our other phones, so I'm not sure why it doesn't work on the new ones.

Default chb12, If you're still following this thread

I had a user with the same problem - 7520, running OS v4.0.0.249. I don't know what the problem was, but I backed up the user's address book, blew away the contacts, and reloaded them. Now he can see who's calling on a direct connect call.

Don't know if this will help, but who knows. Good luck.

I have this problem from time to time as well. Essentially I just remove all of the users contacts from outlook and place them into a temp contact folder for about 30 minutes. This provides the BES enough time to remove the contacts from the 7520. I then simply copy the contacts back into the default outlook contact folder and voila the names are back with direct connect calls.

Just a note. It does appear that if you have previously synced your contacts to MS Outlook (for instance), then you can clear out the address book by going into your Desktop Manager, clicking "Backup/Restore", clicking "Advanced" and then clearing out this field (while the bb's cradled) and then re-syncing MS Outlook contacts back into the device. On MS Oulook in the contacts section, there should be a drop down menu listing "RADIO". If that appears, select that and the DC # should appear from there.

Sometimes I've had people toggle their "SORT BY" option from their Address Book OR try to do a "CLEAR SELECTION" of filters on their address book to try to help out with it.

Hope this helps.
