Default International Service Availability

Please Login to Remove!

My father is considering purchasing a BlackBerry in the near future and is curious about the availability of international service. He is currently a Verizon cellular phone service customer and is willing to port his number to another carrier.

In the summer he will travel to Sweden, Estonia, Russia, Finland, and Denmark. Is there a U.S. carrier that can provide international voice roming service in these countries? T-Mobile? Is BlackBerry service available in these countries as well? Is there a particular device that he should consider?

Thanks.

Andrew

T-Mobile, Cingular/AT&T Wireless all have international roaming - but beware that it can be upwards of $2.50 per minute or more depending on where he goes. Cheapest would be get a local SIM card for each area that he's visiting and get an unlocked phone (7100t would be my choice as it's quadband). Data would also be expensive if it's roaming $0.015/kb, though both data and voice options are available - it might not be cost effective.

For lightweight email use, it's not that bad for a few days -- just avoid web browser and chatting.

I remember AT&T used to have an unlimited international roaming plan. Does one still exist?

Cingular does - $69.95 + $39.95 voice plan or higher + taxes.

Thanks for the info. I'll advise him to check out the pricing before he travels.
