Unhappy Exchange a BES for a Blackberry Internet Service Software?

I'm an American living in Northern France. A French mobile operator sold me a Blackberry 7290 telling me that I could use it as a private individual (not a company employee), but it was in fact delivered with BES, which I cannot use and the mobile operator says that they can do NOTHING about it!

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the Blackberry Internet Service software somehow, and if so, how I would go about getting BES off and the other software on?

You don't need any software. Go into security, wipe the device, and then log on to your carrier's BIS web site to configure. If you have Desktop Manager installed to sync to Outlook (or another supported PIM) then you'll probably need to reinstall it.

I thought a wipe cleaned out data/info but not IT policies. To get rid of old policies there is a whole lot more you need to do. Check out this thread: How to bypass a BES.
