Default Modify Caller ID from several contacts with same office number

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking for a solution to resolve the wonderful benefits of carrying 6000+ contacts in my BB.

I have several people within my company that all have the same number with different extensions. When they make a call to my BB, someone's name from my company shows up on the caller it, but it isn't the person who is calling.

I have set up a general contact for my main office number and I would like that to be the default Caller ID when receiving calls from my office. That way when someone from my office calls, it shows "Corp Office" instead of "Frank Smith". Does anyone know how to set a default caller id for a specific phone number?

Wirelessly posted (nokia 9300: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/179)

I have a similar issue: our company decided that rather than allow our desktop phe number to be displayed on a recipient's caller I'd, they only allow the main business number to show up on caller ID unfortunately, unless you are a phone system administrator there isn't much you can do.

The issue is that the blackberry uses the caller ID information provided by the phone system, looks for a matching number on your Blackberry. I assume it is returning either a random user who's number begins with the first 7 digits of the company number or the first person in alphabetical order.

Have you tried creating a contact labled "Corporate Office" with ONLY the 7 or 10 digit main number, without extension?

Interesting problem BTW

Good luck.

Ok so your not getting the CallerID with the number ( 555-111-1234 ) thatxxx8217;s actually using the line. If thatxxx8217;s so your company is using either the Telcoxxx8217;s system internally or you have a PBX system . In most cases the user dials out via a trunk line that is selected for optimum calling such as toll calling via a low cost provider. If you are just seeing the main number or some random number the system is using thats the case. It is possible your company is limiting the ID for security reasons. Many Hospitals do that and government offices also. My company directory has 234 thousand people listed and unless I have them in my BB I just get the calling number. Once I have a number I assign a name so the next time it will show. Maybe you can call someone in your telecom department to see if it is blocked. If it is sweet talk them into changing itxxx8230;It may work.

Here is the scenario: I have 5 employees all with the same work number (no extensions). When someone calls from the office it shows one of their names. I have a 6th number programmed that says "Office" and this is how I I call the office without having to look for any 5 of the employees.

I would like to program the BB to show "Office" instead of the userís name. Remember, the number is the same for everyone since we have an admin answering the phone. I would like the default to be "Office" when ever anyone calls from that number.

When you are trying to call INTO your office, does the address book entry for each of those people have their specific Extension??? If not, don't put a phone number for any of the individual people, and create another address book entry for the company, and not a specific person. If that is the only entry for the company's phone number, that is the name that will be displayed.

On incoming caller ID, it lists whoever's the first name with it assigned. Every time, I believe.

I haven't tried this, but a trick may be to rename "Office" to "*Office" or something, to jump it to the front of the address book...just a suggestion...
