Hmmm, wonder if the IMs will be via SMS, like T-Mobile. That'd kinda stink.

Depends - T-Mobile could do it over GPRS if they wanted to. The WV/IMPS gateway they use can use SMS as the bearer or GPRS - and even better it even supports GPRS with SMS fail-over.

Why T-Mobile didn't do that is clearly just a revenue grab, which sucks. There is really no reason why you would want to only use SMS for IM except that you can use SMS while talking on the phone.

Every other implementation of IMPS/WV is IP based, I really wish T-Mobile would get with the program.

Though on the other hand, I really want RIM to support WV/IMPS natively so that we can use presence on our 'Berrys.
