Default Could this be a stolen Blackberry? Req. help

Please Login to Remove!

I was recently using the Motorola i830 when an associate of mine told me he'd sell me his Blackberry 7510 for a low price because he recently upgraded to the 7520 (I think that's the model number. I'm new to this Blackberry stuff, forgive me). He told me all I had to do was pop the sim card out and stick it in the blackberry and I'd be good to go, minus the fact that I'd have to redo my address book. I put it in the Blackberry, which is in outstanding condition, and I can receive and place calls, and receive and initiate Direct Connect sessions. The address book contains no entries as expected, however, I cannot receive any e-mails on it. I went to the Nextel Blackberry webclient and registered the phone and got an e-mail, but when I sent mail to it to test, it did not send. I went to MyNextel and tried to update the registration on my phone, but when I did, I got "PTN and IMEI is invalid." Do I need to call Nextel and transfer something or order anything, or do I need to give the phone to Nextel because it's stolen?

EDIT: He had the box and manual etc. with it, and i've read through them a couple of times now.

I would check with Nextel. They can probably tell you if the BB was stolen or not. Or, if it will even work on their network.

The Blackberry is Nextel branded. I took the sim card out of my i830 and put it in the Blackberry. Phone calls and direct connect work fine. I just can't do anything else. Get messages/email, etc.

You need to get him to deactivate his bwc account (web client) when it sais a pin or imei is invalid, its because its registered on someone elses web client account. Get him to close the account, or remove the pin/imei and your good to go.

No, they wouldnt let the phone on the network, so its not stolen.

Do you have the blackberry service attached to your phone number yet? That might be the problem....

If you don't have it, even if you have your web client and all set up, nothing's going to happen, because Nextel's computers that tell your cell phone what it can and can't do are goin to say, "You can't do that!"

Call Customer Care, and have them add Blackberry Internet Service to your account. Then log into your web client and send a service book. Then everything should work fine.

I recently upgraded to a 7520 myself, and gave my oldschool 6510 to a co-worker. As soon as I upgraded my handheld on my webclient, I was able to set his up without any kind of problem.

Yes, you'll have to buy a data plan. You can't just drop in the SIM and start getting email. Call customer care for Nextel.
