Default BlackBerry battery is full but won't power on or run from AC please help!

Hey everyone I desperately need help.

I just purchased a 7290 off eBay. When I first got it, it powered on right away for a few minutes, then said the battery is drained, shutting down. I connected to my PC with USB and it kept saying it, showing a red battery with a question mark. After several tries, it then showed a blue battery and blue lightning bolt that it was charging, and that the battery had 80% charge. A little while later, immdiately it would say battery is dead. I've tried everything, update the software, no avail. My roomie has the same blackberry so I connected it to the wall with his AC adapter and it still says it. Doesn't show it is charging, and won't run without a battery. I put my battery in his, it works fine, says 80% charged. I put his full battery in mine, says the same thing! I'm going to contact the person I bought it from for a refund, but has anyone heard of this as being something common or software based?

That's all right, a replacement is on its way anyway. Is there no way to use the BlackBerry without a battery and just run it from AC though? seems really weird that u can't

Nope, the device must have a working battery. No way to use it without one, I have tried.

Not really "weird". Most electrical devices like a most stabilized and clean voltage like a battery to run without damage. The ac charger output would be nasty!
