Default Blackberry data plans, questions!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone. This might be a Rogers specific question but just curious. I have a 7290 and a regular voice plan. I'm just curious, Rogers offers a $5 a month for 2mb internet add on. If I get that, can I use BIS to send/receive email with it? Or do I need to get like a $25 a month BlackBerry data plan for that?

Secondly, when I send an email from my phone as an email, is that considered data, or does that count as a text message? I'm assuming SMS is text and email is data but just curious thanks!

You MUST have a BlackBerry data plan to be able to send/receive emails, PIN messages, or surf the web.

Yes, SMS is text. Email requires the data plan.

Okay. I was just confused because it said pay $5 for 2mb for surfing the net and doing email instead of paying per kb. But I think it meant for email its normally 5 cents a kb but with the $5 plan its only 3 cents. Either way, what I'm curious is, can I not though still sign up for BIS and just pay by the kb for email sent or received? I have a good text messaging plan, unlimited incoming and outgoing with my plan, which is what I'll pretty much use. But just for the odd time that I'd like to send an email, there must still be a way to set up email on the blackberry through the normal email means and not through WAP?

Because this is a popular topic of late here's the deal, BlackBerry's communicate through RIM's secure servers which are leased by the carriers with a residual going back to RIM. Said plan is completely different from the unlimited gprs, without a BlackBerry Data Plan you have no data on a BlackBerry, simply voice and SMS, end of story with no workaround
