I don't thinK you can.... and you are getting charged for them I believe.... You need to stop them at the source. If you had twoway messaging on your old nextel phone, it is probably email addressed to your old two way address ([email address]). Those messages are delivered via SMS on the Blackberry now. You need to get the sender(s) to use the new BB email address ([email address]) instead.

There's no way to turn off SMS messaging, but you can turn off alerting on this. You can also try changing your cell phone number, to start with a clean slate. Explain to your carrier that you're getting "crank SMS messages" and that you need to change your cell phone number.

Keep your SMS number as little known as possible - also, avoid registering for free SMS services (sms.ac etc) since you neverk now you might end up on a SMS spammer list.

There may be a way (or a third party program) to redirect SMS messages into a separate folder.

You can erase your SMS messages (without deleting your email) quickly by holding ALT+S and then selecting the date at top and then "Delete Prior"

Not sure how someone would have gotten my SMS number since I don't even know what it is? How do I turn of the alerting on SMS messages? Is there anyway slowly reduce the number of SMS spams I receive? Does not opening them help....or is it a lost cause at this point?

If you have ever given your cellphone number out, or typed a cellphone number in a form, or that somebody else signed your cellphone number into some website, then it could end up on a spammer list.

Also, sometimes they don't even have to do that -- sometimes you know certain exchanges are cellphone numbers. For example, you have a (123)456- cellphone number... and that would usually mean that phone numbers 456-0000 through 456-9999 would all be cellphone numbers.

LNP -- Local Number Portability -- is making this more confusing, since some cellphone numbers are now landline numbers, and vice-versa. However, there are methods that determine whether a phone number is a cell phone number, and if it is, then you can figure out how to SMS that number... and thus, it can be prone to spamming.

So the only way to get away from that spamming is to change your cellphone number... which changes your SMS number (which is your cellphone number too, if you have voice service). Even if you only have data service, you still have a phone number, and that can still be SMS-spammed.

It looks like you may have signed up for Nascar to go alerts... You may have done so by entering one of the NEXTEL "contests" in the NOL browser on your old phone....

Try this to get it stopped....

NASCAR.COM Alerts*

Open NOL browser

Scroll to and select Sports
Scroll to and select NEXTEL Cup
Scroll to and select NASCAR.com Alerts
Scroll to and select Alerts ON or Alerts OFF
Available on:
All Nextel phones

If no luck try calling Nextel CS if no luck I would try NASCAR.com at this website http://www.nascar.com/wireless/ and maybe you can get the messages stopped....

Okay.

This looks like a news update or something from Nextel. I would talk to them and get them to stop sending you SMS messages about anything, including (especially? ;)) NASCAR.

Rock. That is a better solution than changing the phone number.

Thanks for chiming in, Sheakt.

Go forth and thumb.
