When I first installed my Desktop Manager with the earlier version, I did not have Redirector. When I upgraded to 4.0 on the Desktop it also install the redirector.
I have received my POP3 emails from day 1 but since having Redirector running sometimes I get the same email several times and even a day or two apart.
I am just running the Desktop version not BES. Do I need the redirector program or can I get rid of it and still receive my emails.

I have been reading. It sounds like if I have the BWC running, I don't need the Redirector working. Is that correct?

That is correct if you are using the BWC which is now call the BIS Blackberry Internet Service you do not need to use the redirector. Usually you will use one or the other.

I tried to use windows to do an "Add Remove Programs" of the Redirector and it does not show as an installed program. I guess it is just part of the desktop software.

Can it be shut off so it doesn't come on everytime I boot.

When you upgraded to 4.0 you selected Desktop Redirector. You must now uninstall Desktop Manager (through Add/Remove Programs) and then reinstall it. This time, make sure the Desktop Redirector is not selected. Then reboot when it is done.

I don't think you have to uninstall Desktop Manager. Re-run setup. It should have an option to modify the existing installation. Choose that option, and it will ask if you want to use redirector or BWC.

I have been toying with the idea of using Redirector to forward messages from client site that I'm calling home right now. I installed and uninstalled it (with the 4.0 desktop) yesterday.

I reinstalled desktop without the redirector and so far everything seems to be working properly.

...or you could just remove the shortcut from your Startup menu in Programs (Start Menu)...

To change from Redirector to BWC versions of the desktop you must uninstall and reinstall, you can't change on the fly.

I didn't uninstall the Redirector, I just reinstalled the program on my desktop and everything is working properly. The Redirector Icon is gone. So it looks like you can do it on the fly.
