Smile New to blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

I just got the new blackberry pearl. I have never even played with a blackberry before. But i am a little confused? The guy at the store said i would be able to use AIM on it, but i can't find it on the phone do you guys know anything about this?

Also i tried to use the blackberry messaging which also confused me lol. I tried to add someone to my contacts and it says i need their pin? How do i find this out? Can i add people who don't have a blackberry?

I would appreciate any advice i can get on this i am totally clueless. I switched to blackberry from a sidekick which is really user friendly, so sorry if i sound a little blackberry illiterate haha. Thanks!!

Kelli

Just search for a keyword like "instant messenger" in this forum. There are many third party apps you can use that won't cost money because they use your data signal. If you use the OZ AIM client from TMobile, you'll be charged for SMS messages. Blackberries have unique PIN numbers. You can send messages for free to other Blackberries using their PIN. You'll just have to get your friend's PINs from them.

Also i don't have the data plan. Does that make a differance. I am trying to search the instant messages on the forum. But they seem like they are all for people with data plan.

You can't do anything without a data plan. No email, no internet, no PIN messages, no instant messenger. Just voice and SMS messages. Sorry.

Thanks alot not sure how long ill be here though. The guy who sold it to me said that i can use aim without having the data plan. I knew it was too good to be true. So i am not to happy with it so far. I can't even sent picture messages without having the data plan. Usually i wouldn't se so cheap and just get the data plan but its the principal behind the thing.

Hmm, sorry you were misinformed. Pretty much any device will need a data plan for data usage though...

I was under the impression that the IM program by OZ that comes pre-installed on the Pearl uses SMS messages for each message sent or received. Am I wrong on this?

My OZ messenger didn't even show up in the menu until my service books were sent, so I'm guessing that even though it uses SMS, you still have to have a data plan to even get the app loaded in the first place.
