Default My 8703e versus my 7130e...

Please Login to Remove!

I decided to change from my 7130e that I've had for nearly a year to a 8703e. Verizon (primarily New England region) as the carrier. Below are my consolidated pros/cons of ~my~ switch:

Pros:
- Less prone to typos almost immediately as I quickly readjusted to the full keyboard.
- More screen and better screen contrast.
- More stable, I faced a few random resets a week with my 7130e. So far none on the 8703e.
- A good bit snappier on boot and load of programs.

Cons:
- Battery seems confused as it frequently bounces around.
- The bloody 'shoulder blades' on the case make eGrips and other similar thins less effective. Expect the bob-sledding BlackBerry.

I've been very happy with the change so far. I've ordered my Gizmoskin as the stock holster is a liability (BB pops out). Otherwise everything is good (although I await the extended battery).

Thanks very much for posting this. It helps confirm that I did the right thing in selecting the 8703e over the 7130e as my first BB (which arrives tomorrow).

How do you compare the sound quality of the 8703e to 7130e? I've heard that a lot of people are not thrilled by the sound quality of 8703e.

My voice quality is great, and that's coming from a Moto E815. If the Verizon coverage is good in your area, the voice quality shouldn't be a problem.

I also switched from a 7130e to an 8703e...on Sprint however. The voice quality using the handset seems the same to me....I did notice a difference on a wired headset...using the same RIM headset on both units the 8703e has noticeably better sound quality...for some reason on my 7130e there was a slight "hollow" sound to it.

About the same on the ear, no difference I can tell, but the 8130e is a much better speakerphone. -Pk

Im having really weird issues with people hearing me on the 8703e. I'll have full bars and my wife says I'm breaking up. It's driving me nuts

I've switched from my 7130g to a 8700g in the past few days. I LOVE the full keyboard, it's definitely nice to have it back (I originally had a 7290) - and I can write proper emails on this thing! It's not like horrible phones where if I type anything long, I'm so annoyed after because of the typos..

Well anyways-my personal pros and cons of the 8700g, in comparison to the 7130g

Pros
- Full keyboard! (No typos, less mistakes overall and more functionality)
- Bigger screen, see a lot more!

Cons
- Form factor to carry around.. I refuse to wear a belt clip, even with my suit..
- Form factor when using as a phone.. even to the extend of getting the keys imprinted on my cheeks after a long call :p

Cheers!

Try holding the body of the phone angled away slightly from your face, so that only the ear piece touches your ear. I've heard that the microphone sometimes gets blocked when holding it against your face. And for both you and lieb39, a good bluetooth or wired headset can make a huge difference in both call quality and comfort.
