Default Royal Institution Needs Help with Blackberrys

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there

I work for a Royal insitution in the UK and we have recently had a new server installed, as our NT4 server was really on its last legs.

We have 3 users who use Blackberry devices to get their mail. There are 2 7290's and a 7100V.

Our new server was installed 3 days ago and it is running SBE Server 2003 and ever since then when the Blackberry's picks up emails from the server the individual users Outlook accounts show the messages as read.

Previous to having the new server when the blackberrys picked up email it left the email as unread on the server and in the user accounts. The problem is when people return to the office all they see are unread email addresses.

This is giving me a massive headache trying to get the setting back to how it was, any help would be massivley appreciated.

Matt Edwards

Are you using BES (the enterprise server) or BIS (the internet service)?

As far as i am aware it must be using the BIS as the account is accessed online via a Vodaphone portal online.

Hope this helps- Matt

then you must be using pop3 to check your accounts, which is marking the messages as read.

So is there a way of preventing the system from marking these emails as read?

It really is causing us a lot of problem. Thank you Matt

I think that the difference is probably because Vodafone have just upgraded to BIS 2.0 and not because of your upgrade to SBE 2003.

I've been looking around the Vodafone BIS portal and can't see how you can stop marking messages as read when you pick them up. What you can do though is set up the accounts as either IMAP or POP3. With an IMAP account the mail won't be marked as read on the server until a user reads it on their BlackBerry. Not sure what happens with POP3 (but it sounds like it marks it as read as soon as it's pulled off the server judging by your experience).

If the IMAP behaviour is not acceptable, then instead of getting BIS to collect the mail from your server, you could automatically copy every email directly to the users BlackBerry account.

Good luck!

If i were you, i'd call vodaphone or whoever your provider is and ask them. You'll likely get a better answer.
