Default Software Question

Please Login to Remove!

This might be a stupid question to some....This is my first phone that has come w/ software. I put it on my computer but really, I am not sure what I am supposed to do now! What am I supposed to use it for?

Also, do you have to by a memory card to store music? If so, what else does this device store and how much do they cost? Thanks!

I'm afraid you will have to be more specific, in that we need to know what model of BlackBerry you have, and specifically what software you are referring to...the name. If it's the Desktop Manager software, once you install that, it will simply end up as an icon on your Desktop that you will use to sync your BlackBerry. There is also the Device Manager, which it too will result in another icon on your Desktop.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

Sorry...I have the 8100.

I am talking about the software that came with the phone in the box. I installed it and it comes up on my desktop each time I put my computer on.

I am not sure exactly what I need to use it for. Is only used to put items from my home computer onto the phone?

When you installed the the Blackberry Software there is a check box that probably asks you if you want this software to open upon starting your pc. Default is probably set to load and if you didn't want it to load you can uncheck it. No big deal just a pain. Because it's opening upon booting your PC doesn't mean it needs to you do something....just close it or change the setting to not load upon starting your pc.

Hope this makes sense?

U use this software to back up the data on your Blackberry, sync your data if need be and install other programs/applications onto your Blackberry. For example if you wanted to install a new theme or Weather program you could used the Blackberry Software to do so. This is called Application Loader. This is the basic intent of this software that came with your BlackBerry(very high level).

Does this help at all?

You may not even really need it. The 8100 (and all other BB's) are fully functional without Desktop Manager. However, as moosehead said, if you have to load apps via USB (or manage media on newer devices), perform backups, or sync via USB to a PIM then you'll need Desktop Manager.
