Rogue voice mail message icon

OK here goes...

I'm normally on UK network (Orange) with 8700 handset but was in the US this week and was automativally roaming on numerous available networks (eg T-Mobile, Cingular).

Noticed a voice mail message (actually from one of these networks) & just deleted. I've never seen this before because I don't use bb as a phone.

Since then I have had the icon for a voice mail message still showing on my display.

A search of this forum & (so-called) technical advice from Orange has led me to try the following:

1. Leave a voice mail message then delete
2. Hard reset (battery out)
3. Hard reset (battery & sim card out)
4. Handheld wipe
5. Enterprise activation

The icon is still there................ any other ideas from anyone?

Thanks in advance

...and you're sure it's a voicemail icon and not another icon like browser push?

Yep - looked it up in 8700 user-guide + I don't subscribe to any browser push applications.

Orange UK now say that they can only recommend a new handset in order to fix the problem!

Surely there must be a simpler way?

leave a voice mail for yourself. log back in to your voicemail and delete the message, then (this is the key) exit your voicemail using the exit option. (don't just hang up, it should tell you to press a certain key to exit, cingular asks you to press * to exit)

If this doesnt work next would be a firmware update

Thanks but with Orange UK it's just a case of hanging up..... there's no option to exit as the menu options just keep repeating themselves forever.

How do I do a firmware update??

Check out the Sticky Thread FAQs in the top of the General BlackBerry Discussion forum. There is a thread on downloading the firmware and upgrading the BB.
