Default Cingular Blackberry users with 4.0

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 7100g with Cingular and I am unable to access the color version of the page:

http://mobile.blackberry.com

I'm trying to figure out if this is a limitation of Cingular or of the 7100, or perhaps I have a wrong setting somewhere. So can everyone who has Cingular and 4.0 software try going to this website, and then respond to the following:

1) Do you get the full color/animated version of this website or the monochrome version??

Color/Animated Version

Monochrome Version

2) Which Blackberry are you using??

3) Are you using the Web Client (BWC) or an Exchange Server (BES)/MDS service??

I have a Cingular 7290 with Cingular 4.0, non-BES, using redirector and BWC, and I also get the black and white version of mobile.blackberry.com.

I also get the color animated version with the BlackBerry browser. I have a 7100g (Cingular) using BES 4.0. If I use the Cingular browser, I get the b&w version

Well, this appears to be the answer I was looking for. For some reason, even though the Cingular browser supports Javascript and Flash/SVG (I have both options turned on), it does not like the Blackberry Extras website and is unable to connect to the color/animated version.

Just a question for you if you don't mind:

Do you notice any other differences between the 2 browsers as far as how they render certain web pages?

You should receive it automatically from Cingular if/when (unless already) they upgrade their BWC to 4.0 (BIS, I think is the name). You may already have the ability, so its worth logging into your BWC account and resending your service books and/or contacting Cingular to find out when they plan to upgrade their BWC.

Default Color on both

I got color today on both versions - Cingular and BBB through BES 3.6 (think). I am not sure why but I did use the BBB first. On Cingular I am looking at the color version today.

Mystery still exists I guess.

I've noticed on our 3 new 7100g's that the web client offers no Internet Service Book, only the mail service book.
Anyone elso have the same problem?
My 7100g (still using my ATT SIM) web client has both service books.

Yes, I have noticed that the two browsers can render some sites differently.

Same here. It looks like Cingular does not give the Internet Service Book. Although when I look on my BlackBerry under Service books, I see one that says "BlackBerry Browser". But there is only one button to send the web client service book on the Web Client.

Does one seem better than the other?

I guess what I'm trying to find out is if its worth the effort to start some kind of petition to get Cingular to offer the BlackBerry broswer or if the only major advantage is being able to view the color version of the BlackBerry Extras site.

I've been using the "Cingular Browser" for 2 weeks now and so far it works better than the browser on my Sidekick did as well as my Verizon Samsung i600 Windows Smartphone did. While it is not particularly speedy, it seems to do a fine job. But if the BlackBerry Browser is better and can render pages that the Cingular Browser has trouble with, then I would prefer that one.

So you are saying that you cant use the BB browser on cingular? All I can find is the cingular browser and on the web client I only have one service book button.

Im brand new to Blackberry and really confused by all this, but slowly starting to get the hang of this.

Yes, that is correct. But I don't know if that is necessarily bad. The Cingular browser seems quite good. It just doesn't want to access the color version of the Blackberry Extras site which I would not normally care about, except that I want to download the free games that are posted there.

Default Two things to try

When I got my 7100g I had done a restore from my 7280. I am on a corporate plan. I was with ATT not Cingular, but I had to call ATT and they added the HTML browswer and then I had to manually (not automatic) create an encryption key from the desktop to get the Cingular browser. As I said in an earlier post, I am able to see the color version from both browsers.

Can on Cingular look in service books and post here what all service books they have? I don't need any "Desktop [XXXX]" ones if you are on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. And also what thier TCP settings are. I'm trying to figure out if the Cingular Browser is going through the regular GPRS network, or if it is using the Internet Browsing Service.

By default Cingular does not enable Internet Browsing Service for their Web Client accounts. You can call and ask for the "Data Connect" package (i think that's what it's called...look through Mark's FAQ about setting up internet without BES and read what it says for Cingular). If you log into your BlackBerry Web Client, look under Profile, at the bottom will be two buttons for service books if you have the Internet Browsing Service enabled.
