I will be going to a smartphone in the next few months. I am interested in the 8703e for Verizon. I have some questions for you:

I currently have a Palm Tungsten Z. Can I trannsfer my address book/calendar to a Blackberry?

The tethered modem. I have a wireless network at home. Can I use the wireless network on the Blackberry? Does the tethered modem receive WiFi?

Does the Blackberry have voice-command for the phone?

How does internet audi-streaming work on a Blackberry?

How difficult is it to set the Blackberry up to receive e-mail from popular internet providers (AOL/Yahoo/Comcast/etc.)

Thank you.

You can transfer if you use Outlook, or a similar application, for contacts and calendar. There is no direct conversion/synch from the Palm Desktop to the BB.

The BB 87xx series is not WiFi capable.

Does the Blackberry have voice-command for the phone?

The 87xx series does not have voice dial capability.

Can't help you with that one.

As for email setup, using BIS, which is the personal service, it is very easy to set up Comcast and other POP accounts. I cannot speak for AOL or Yahoo as I di not have them coming to my BB.

Thank you.

FYI...while there's not a direct importation from Palm Desktop, there's IS an option with Desktop Manager 4.2. DM 4.2 has a "Palm Importation" feature. I've never used it, but it should allow you to import your information directly from your Palm device.

For the Address Book, just download and install v4.2 of the Desktop Manager, and it has an option to import all your PIM data from a Palm. With respect to the tethered modem, the 8703e can be used in that regard. However, the 8703e cannot do the audio streaming you want....for that you should have a close look at the BB 8100. As previously mentioned, the BB is easy to set up your email accounts on.

Good luck...

Didn't know there was an upgrade to DM. Thanks for the info.
