You can ESN swap a BB onto a line that just has vision/power vision service and it will 'operate' without any of the BIS functionality (so no Browser, no e-mail, but you can load Opera Mini and use the internet, and make/receive phone calls and text messages.)

I am currently fighting with Sprint over them not letting me pay them the extra $40 a month to get BIS access, because the plan that I'm on is allegedly 'not compatible' with a BB - so I have to call Executive Services tomorrow to get it taken care of.

I don't think anyone is getting BIS for free.

Any carriers SIM chip will allow any other phone to work on the network but as you found out they have plans for the BB service. Getting them to allow BB data on all plans is usually hard.
I assume the Mini Opera works because the system thinks it's working on a standard phone plan with a vision plan.

I got BIS access free for six months when I went with the Blackberry. I had the free grandfathered Vision, but had full Blackberry functionality.

I get the unlimited Data plan for $36.89/mo. However, it needs to be much less with my agencies discount----need to call them about this !

Executive Services was able to add the BB data package to my SERO plan with no hassles, for $36.89.

I also get a 25% NVP discount.

There is apparently a special code for BB service added on to a plan with built-in Vision like SERO.

Do Sprint Blackberries use SIM cards? I thought CDMA carriers were non-sim.

Nope. CDMA phones don't have SIM cards. My 7130e (Verizon) doesn't.

On Sprint, to change phones, you just have to call in and give them the serial number of the new phone. This is generally pretty easy, but the computer system they use should catch any attempt to do this to switch to a blackberry without the blackberry plan, but it does not, is what we were saying. In that instance, you can use the BlackBerry for SMS and voice but not any of the BIS features.
