Default Sending plaintext email from BB?

Please Login to Remove!

Recently a number of people have complained about the HTML email being sent from my BB. To be honest I never even thought about it or had a problem with it, it was always readable. But a few recipients have had problems with it lately.

Question is, is there a way to default the BB/BES to send outbound email as plaintext instead? If it's BES-managed, can it be set per-BB profile instead of mangling all end-users?

Cheers, -Pk

Uh...not sure what the issue is, really. Blackberry devices aren't capable of sending or receiving HTML e-mail. Everything in- and out-bound on your device is converted to plain text.

Do you mean that when you foward an email, it just sends HTML code and not the pictures and links? Like mentioned above, the BB will not process HTML code as a security feature.

I sent myself an email just now, and it was received HTML. It's multipart MIME has a 'text' version that is Base64 encoded even. The last few tests I did to multiple destinations and it all came out HTML.

Receiving hasn't been a problem, it just ends up unformatted. It's the sending as HTML that is confusing me. -Pk

Straight from the headers:

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

------_=_NextPart_001_01C6FD16.9B83ECD4
Content-Type: text/plain;
charset="UTF-8"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

------_=_NextPart_001_01C6FD16.9B83ECD4
Content-Type: text/html;
charset="UTF-8"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

------_=_NextPart_001_01C6FD16.9B83ECD4--

That seems... ummmm... I dunno. *shrug* If it's not supposed to be sending HTML then something really whacky is going on. -Pk

That's because their client doesn't handle MIME messages properly. You see the first part is 'text/plain' which means that if they have it set up to view plaintext, they'll get plaintext.

I can mangle it outbound to strip the html fine and my own clients seem to work fine but some recipients have recently started complaining. Guess I'll have to gather some end-user client info and make a matrix and figure if there is a fix I should ask or not. Cheers, -Pk
