Default BES and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003...

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Forgive me, but I'm VERY new to the Blackberry world. My bosses are hounding me to research this!

We currently have a front-end Microsoft Exchange Server in a DMZ. Can BES 4.1 be installed on this server or on the back-end server? Or does it have to be installed on a totally seperate server altogether?

Thanks!

antsman,

You should put it on a separate server. It can cause problems if you put it on an Exchange server.

RIM has a free trial version of BES you can download and use, and the docs show how much hardware is required based on the number of users you will put on BES.

Good luck!

Yeah I wouldn't drop it on Exchange, it's a real pain (despite what some people claim) and not supported. Go for the trial and see how your users get on. RIM's documentation will outline hardware requirements up to a user base of 500.

I seem to have hard time to get the trial version online.

Does anyone know where I could get it? Or I have to call RIM's rep instead?? Thanks.

Call whoever you plan to buy BES from and ask them for info on the demo. Dangle that carrot! You can buy BES from your wireless provider (some don't give discounts, some give it away for free; it all depends) or your IT supplier. I purchased BES through CDW, for example.

If I remember correctly the demo is 2 months long, so you should get a good feel for the app in that time.

Good luck!
