OK guys,

I'm new to the forum, and looking to buy a blackberry, just to give you some info, I'm a student, so I'm on a limited budget, and I don't need that many features.

Now I saw a 6710 on E-bay for $100. Is this a good deal, is the 6710 a god model?? Is $100 a good price, the thing is allegedly unlocked, but I sent an email to the seller just to make sure.

Any help would be much appreciated. Now I'm using a Nokia 3100 just for the phone, but would like to get an organizer and be able to do my e-mail on the go.

Also, is there any possibility of USB connectivity with this model, or is it only via serial port??

Thanks for all your help.

If you'd like more information, you can go the the Blackberry site (www.blackberry.com) and you can get more specs/features. There's even a compare feature if you want to know what specific features one might have that another other might not.

Happy buying!

(did I say features three times? I need caffeine!)

seems like you could get a 72xx for $100 which in my experience works better as a cell phone and it's smaller.

keep in mind that if you get a blackberry on ebay, you will have to call your service provider and add a blackberry plan, either the limited plan or the unlimited plan. Depending on who your provider is, it will cost you an additional $29.99 - $49.99 per month on top of your voice plan.

Also the nokia 3100 - is a tri-band GSM phone (850Mhz, 1800Mhz, 1900Mhz) while the BB 6710 is only a dual band GSM/GPRS device (900Mhz (not in the US) , 1900Mhz) so your voice coverage may shrink depending on your service provider.

You can get a USB-serial converter that will work for the older serial devices to work over the USB port.

The 6200 series are pretty solid.

If you buy a GSM blackberry on the internet, you may want to also have the seller contact their carrier and have them set the PIN and IMEI to 0 if they previously had a web client account.

The 6710 was phased out and sold for $69 to business customers not too long back. The 6230 was recently given away for FREE by T-Mobile due to phasing the unit out (they no longer have stock of these). If someone is offering you a 6710 for $100, its NOT worth it. The 72xx (excluding 7290) would be the ONLY lower-end older models (keep in mind, they are still great units even today, except the 16MB memory) that I would consider at that price.

For anyone who cares, I purchsed an unlocked 7280 for $200 U.S including shipping.

Now I'm just waiting for it to arrive.
