Default No attachments coming when email through Redirector

I don't seem to be able to get attachments to my bb. I use redirector and BBToday. I am able to view pdf's as long as they're sent to my blackberry email account, but if they are sent to my work email and redirected, it mentions that there is an attachment but there is no paperclip symbol and no actual attached file.

I've got a vague memory of reading that you need the attachment service to be running in conjuction with the Desktop Redirector ... but I can't find any documentation to back that up or give more info.

The BlackBerry Attachment Service enables BlackBerry wireless devices, BlackBerry Connect and BlackBerry Built-In enabled devices to open email attachments. The Attachment Service supports files created in Microsoft Word (.doc), Microsoft Excel (.xls), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt), Corel WordPerfect (.wpd), Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), HTML (.html, .htm) and compressed archive files (.zip files), and ASCII (.txt) documents. With the release of BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0, the Attachment Service also supports images in .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, .png, and .tif file formats.

After a bit more reading it looks like to open attachments you may need to have a BES running the Attachment Service. BES Express can be downloaded free here: https://www.blackberry.com/express/

If you are running Desktop Redirector, then you will not be able to open attachments at all. That is one of the drawbacks to Desktop Redirector.

I had the same trouble with messages composed/sent using Outlook in HTML format. Having the message resent in plain text format (along with the attachment) solved my problem.

PS: Attachments in messages sent from Yahoo opened without problem irregardless of the format.
