So I have a Blackberry On Sprint. I enabled my BB Data Plan, but I ended up taking it off, and having sprint grandfather my free power vision back in instead of paying $40 a month. Long story short, before I disconnected it, I loaded the OPERA mobile browser, which currently works just fine, and I don't get charged any extra data charges.

Heres my problem......
When I surf to a particular image, or try to download an mp3 by entering the URL, or I try to do an over the air install, it all of a sudden tries to open up the old BB internet browser. Is there anyway in the application settings to keep the OPERA browser as the default browser, instead of automatically defaulting back to the blackberry browser????

You can't get any data on the BB without a BB plan period. No way no how. That's why opera won't do it.

You are both incorrect, I can surf the web just fine with the opera browser, and I do NOT have a blackberry plan. It is very possible and very easy to do. If you want me to post a picture of my bill showing that im not being charged for blackberry data, and a small video that shows me browsing the web, I will be more then happy to prove you wrong.

I don't think you read my post careful enough. Also, THE DAY that I bought my phone, I DID NOT activate blackberry service, and I was able to get data using my existing power vision account. Obviously I couldn't search the web because the provisioning happened, but I had multiple applications pulling news, weather, data, etc...... This can be done, and I know about 10 other people just off the top of my head doing the same exact thing. One of the guys that I know, has been doing this for about 5 months, no problems at all. All this time everyone has been saying you can't have data on a blackberry without a blackberry plan, well unfortunately you have been wrong this whole time. With Sprint, you can have data, you cant use the blackberry servers for data, but if you dont have the bb data plan, your phone can use your current data package if it is enabled. (which mine is) I am not able to use the blackberry browser, it gives me an error because I don't have the BB data plan enabled. On the flip side, OPERA works great. Sorry to burst everyones bubble, but your giving out incorrect information. At least on the sprint side. I know most other carriers are pretty strict.

And by disconnected it, I dont mean the phone, I just mean I took off the Blackberry Unlimited Data Plan...............Also, I've had two billing cycles since I did that, so its not like its just waiting until the end of the billing cycle to shut off. Internet and applications work perfectly and have worked perfectly, except when I attempt to download a specific file, that needs to be saved to the phone. Thats when it tries to open the old browser.

You can only use PV to run Opera Mini and other midlets. Opera Mini cannot download files. Therefore, you are using a gimped BlackBerry. QED.

I tried to change mine by going to options, advanced options and then browser but opera wasn't an option to make as the default browser. You're SOL.

As far as I know, the answer is no. Every other carrier REQUIRES you to have a bb data plan to have a blackberry on your account. The sprint side of Sprint Nextel, somehow got around that......I'm living proof. Its funny that the moderators answered so fast, and they were soooo wrong. I got my question answered by everyone else though.

thats interesting, i have a blackberry that i use with my non blackberry data plan simcard, and it be really cool if i can get browsing to work.

Not sure if this download will work with your blackberry application loader for an offline install, but worth a try

It's not that it doesn't work or that no one can get it to work. It's that you're arrangement is a non-standard and unsupported loophole. If you really want data to function properly, then add the Blackberry data plan. Good luck getting it up and running again with Power Vision.

You can get away with using the net and all that, but you need a BlackBerry plan to properly communicate with the net and your BlackBerry.
