Default NJ Blackberryguy! Where are yooooou?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, everyone.
This is my first post. What a great site.

Here is my deal: I bought and AT&T Blackberry
(is there a difference?) on eBay and I can play
that brick game on it but nothing else. When I
charged it I got a "SIM card error" message.

Needless to say I have no service package for
it yet.

Am I screwed? Or is there somewhere in NJ
I can take it to (1) get it set up properly,
SIM-wise and (2) get phone service for it.

Does AT&T still do this stuff, or does Cingular. I
keep forgetting who bought whom.

Hey, I just got my iPod to work. I just need
a little help

Thanks everbody! I'm really smart about a lot of
things (well, some things) but this is not one of them.

Since you bought an AT&T BlackBerry, you can only use an AT&T SIM card and an AT&T plan. I recommend you call AT&T Customer Service (I don't have their number since I don't use AT&T Wireless) and ask about getting an account and SIM card with the BlackBerry Data Plan.

You need to have a Cingular/ATT account. You'll get a SIM card that you need to use your new Blackberry's phone feature. You'll also need a data plan to get email and other web services. If you do already have a Cingular phone with a SIM card you can slip it right into your Blackberry. Dunno how it is with Cingular, but with T-Mobile that I have I am able to add features to my plan online.

Lots of folks keep their cell phone for talking and tote around their Blackberry for all the other features. Personally, I like the convenience of carrying only one device so my Blackberry is my phone as well. If you do decice to go the phone+Blackberry route, you'll need a separate SIM card for the 'berry.

Supposedly, you can now use locked AT&T BlackBerries on Cingular, but that's grapevine information. (Newer versions of Cingular SIM cards now function in locked Cingular's AND locked AT&T's -- you may need to upgrade your SIM card)

Ha-ha, you guys.

I am sure NJBlackberry Man is a most studly SuperModerator. (If I embarrassed you, NJBB, I truly apologize.)

I was counting on the Jersey connection to get you to take
pity on a fellow denizen of the swamps, er, lowlands. At this point I have
no shame.

Thank you ALL for your help (and believe me, jibi, I tried
searching a long time til I found this site.)

Have a great weekend, all!

Mary

No, but our daughter wants a SKII for her birthday. How awful. Well, she originally wanted a Treo (with our without the Goodlink s/w), but that's another story.
