Default BB service "pay as you go"

Please Login to Remove!

I have an unlocked Cingular BB Pearl.

I am travelling to Greece on an extended trip (2 months).

Does anyone know if I can insert a local SIM card in Greece that would include data for the BB on a "pay as you go" basis. That way, I don't need to sign up for a long-term contract since I am only there for 2 months.

I definitely don't want to suffer with roaming charges by using a US based SIM card.

you can actually fore-go all of that and contact the carrier, tell them you want a prorated 'Unlimited International Voice/Data/Email' plan. Most should offer this without a contract, and it shouldn't cost you anymore than a pay-as-you-go plan would, and you wouldn't have the hassel of giving everyone your 'Greece' contact info... And losing the contacts/notes, etc.

When you say "contact the carrier" do you mean the current carrier or the one in Greece?

I too am curious about a "pay-as-you-go" plan in Europe, since Rogers pricing is abysmal and the roaming charges with cost more than a new Bimmer.

I was referring to your current carrier. If you are with either Sprint or Cingular, I am almost positive they offer international data/voice plans for short term travellers. After all, Blackberry's are for roaming exec's, right!? :P I am not familiar with the pay as you go plans though, but I would rather pay an extra $20 or so to my current carrier than have to mess with another carrier for such a short period of time.

It's really unusual for carriers to offer Blackberry data with prepaid service.

No dice dude, even if you can find PAYG data and blackberry service, you still have to unlock the device..

data roaming in europe is not that bad, it's voice that will kill you. Best thing anyone can do is just find a way to buy a blackberry over there and use it for a month or two..

pay as you go data or blackberry service is very rare and will continue to be for some time..

Thought so, and the Rogers roaming prices are terrible, even for data. I guess its "random unlocked phone" for me.
