my boss was having problem getting email at the airport, but he was able to call me from his blackberry. and i was able to txt him using [email address]. now if i was able to txt him, y couldnt he recieve email also? i though txt and email are data?

SMS is transmitted via GSM. Data is via GRPS or EDGE. It's entirely possible to have no data and still place/receive calls and send/receive SMS.
